Polarographic and oscillopolarographic studies in dimethylsulfoxide and dimethylformamide

Abstract: Polarographic and oscillopolarographic investigations have been carried out on the Perchlorates of T1(I), Rb(I), K(I), Na(I), Ba(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and of bisbiphenylchromium(I) iodide in anhydrous dimethylsulfoxide and in anhydrous dimethylformamide (0.1 м tetraethylammoniumperchlorate). The half-wave potentials at 25°C vs. the aqueous saturated calomel electrode are referred to the bisbiphenylchromium(I) iodide-scale. The half-wave potentials are found related to the donor number of the respective solvent. The mechanism of the reduction at the dropping mercury electrode is described. Analytical aspects as well as the influence of water are investigated.
