Determination of iron(II) oxide in tourmalines
D. Weiss
Geologisches Zentralinstitut, Prag 7
Abstract: A resistent borosilicate is decomposed by melting with a mixture of
potassium hydrofluoride, ammonium fluoride and orthophosphoric acid in
a special glass apparatus. After dissolving the melt in dilute sulfuric acid, the
content of iron(II) oxide is determined by titration with potassium bichromate
by using Potentiometrie indication. The total content of iron can be determined
by titanium(III) chloride, too. The method is suitable for samples
containing more than 2% of iron(II) oxide.
