Abstract: The effect of n-alkyl substituents in the chelate-forming agents of the type 1,2-diaminoalkane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid was studied. The values of logarithms of the stability consts. of the chelates of 1,2-diaminobutane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (I) with lanthanides and Cu, Pb, Zn, Co, and Mn bivalent cations as central atoms were detd. polarographically. The I complexes are the most stable. The chelates with the lanthanides are 0.2 to 0.5 log K units more stable than the complexes of the corresponding propane analogs (II) and 0.9 to 1.1 log K units more stable than the corresponding EDTA complexes. The chelate-forming properties are much more pronounced in the I complexes with Cu, Pb, Zn, Co, and Mn, as the central bivalent atoms. Substitution of Me (II) with the Et (I) group in the complexons of EDTA type increases the stability of the complexes.
