New complexans. XII. Formation of the meso and racemic 2,3-diaminobutane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid complexes

Abstract: With the aid of spectrophotometric methods, the formation of complexes of stereoisomeres of 2,S-diaminobutane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Fe(III) is studied. In all cases the complexes of the composition 1 1 are formed. The absorption curves of the meso-DBTA and rac-DBTA with the above ions show but very slight differences in the position of the absorption maximum and in the molar absorptivity. The stability constants of the meso-DBTA complexes are approximatively identical with those of the EDTA complexes. The stability constants of the rac-DBTA complexes are about log К = 2 — 3 higher than those of the meso-DBTA and EDTA complexes. The stability constants of the complexes under investigation, i. e. of both stereoisomeres DBTA can be arranged as follows: Fe(III) > Ni(II) > Cu(II) > Co(II).
