Aminolysis of sucrose. X. Reaction of sucrose with aqueous urea solutions at elevated temperatures

Abstract: The reaction of sucrose with aq. urea solns. at 140° and 220° was studied. From the mixt. contg. N, by paper chromatog. these compds. were isolated and identified: 2-hydroxymethyl-5-methylpyrazine, b0.1 109-12°, Rf 0.82-5; 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,4(?)-dihydropyrazine, m. 85-8°; 2-methyl-5-(D-arabino-tetrahydrobutoxybutyl)pyrazine, m. 197-9°, [α]20D -60.4°, Rf 0.48; 4-(D-arabino-tetrahydroxybutyl)-2-imidazolone, m. 176-9°, Rf 0.39; D-glucopyranosylurea, m. 205-8°, [α]20D -23.1°, Rf 0.13; and N,N'-bis(D-glucopyranosyl)urea, m. 272-5°, [α]20D -32.66, Rf 0.06.
