Abstract: Under conditions for hydroformylation of allyl alc., the simultaneous isomerization to propionaldehyde (I) was studied. The selectivity of the reaction for the formation of I, propanol (II), propyl formate (III), and 2- and 3-formyl-1-propanol (IV) in relation to temp. and Co2(CO)8 as catalyst was detd. Allyl alc. (58 g.) and 0.29 g. Co2(CO)8 was heated in a rotating autoclave and the products of reaction detd. by chromatog. By increasing temp. from 81 to 150 and 170°, the yield of I increases from 3.3 to 22.4 and 25.8, of II from 0 to 2.4 and 13.5, of III from 0 to trace and 0.2, and of IV decreases from 19.6 to 10.7 and 7.9 mole %. II increases, III does not change, IV decreases with increasing Co2(CO)8; I has a sharp decrease after increasing to 150°. 28 references.
