Abstract: A new procedure to synthetize l,3-diaminopropan-2-ol-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid
(DPOTA) is described. So far, only the patented route [5] has been known. Furthermore,
both the formation of DPOTA-complexes with Cu2+ , Ni2+, Co2+ , Pb2+ ,
Fe3+ and their composition is studied by means of spectrophotometric methods. The
ratio of the complexes composition was found to be 1 : 1 with the exception of Pb2+
complex, where the ratio was determined as 1 : 2 in favour to the complexing
reagent [6, 7]. The paper deals also with the stability constant measurements. The respective stability constants of the observed complexes with DPOTA are 2—5 logarithm
К units lower than those with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). This
phenomenon is due to the formation of a six-member ring of the DPOTA complexes,
whereas the EDTA complexes are five-membered. The stability constants of the
Pb2+ complex with DPOTA were reported earlier [6, 7].
