Electrochemical contribution to the mechanism of vanadium corrosion

Abstract: The wt. loss due to corrosion caused by vapors of fused synthetic ash contg. V (remaining after burning heavy oils) as well as by the chem. and electrochem. corrosion of Fe, Ni, Cr, and of the alloy VZU-60 (composed of Cr 18.6, Ni 61.5, Fe 12.45, W 2.9, Mo 2.31, and Ti 1.14%) was detd. The elec. cond. of the molten V ash at 700° reached 0.5855 ohm-1cm.-1 From measurements of the alloy with the compn. Ni 70, Cr 20, and Fe 10%, the electrochem. portion is 13.65-24.07%, calcd. from the total of the chem. and electrochem. corrosions.
