Polarographic estimation of the degree of esterification of cellulose zanthate

Abstract: A polarographic method for detn. of COS and CS₂ bound in cellulose xanthate in the presence of each other, in their polarographically active forms of diethyl monothiocarbamate and diethyl dithiocarbamate, is described. Calibration curves were devised so that COS could be detd. in the presence of a large excess of CS₂ by derivation polarography. This method was applied in studies of kinetics of the xanthation of alkali cellulose.
