Copper(II) complex compounds with organic ligands. III. Reactions of bis(salicylato)diaquocopper(II) complexes with certain nitrogen-containing compounds and aromatic amines

Abstract:   A simple method for the prepn. of complex compds. of the type of [Cu[o-C₆H₄(OH)CO₂]₂(NL)₂] (I) (NL = monofunctional N ligand) was described. It is based on the substitution of the mol. of H₂O in the bis(salicylato)diaquocopper(II) (II) complex with the mols. of the corresponding NL of the pyridine and aniline type in EtOH solns. At room temp. 5 g. of the dihydrate of II (1.22 × 10^-2M) in 40-50 ml. 96% EtOH is mixed with the soln. of 4.88 × 10^-2M or 7.32.10^-2M of the corresponding NL in 20 ml. 96% EtOH. Cryst. products are formed immediately or few mins. after; 18 I complexes with the following NL compds. were isolated: α-, β-, and γ-picoline, 2,6-lutidine, 3-acetylpyridine, 4-acetylpyridine, quinoline, 2-methylquinoline, 6-methylquinoline and isoquinoline, aniline, o-, m-, and p-toluidine, 2-chloroaniline, 4-chloroaniline, 1-naphthylamine, and 2-naphthylamine.
