Determination of iodine in organic polymers by activation analysis

Abstract: The detn. of I in org. polymers by a nondestructive neutron activation analysis was described. The γ-activity of 128J was measured. 128J was identified by the γ-quantum energy and by the half-life detd. from the time change of the photopeak at 0.45 Mev. 64Cu and 82Br do not interfere because of a considerable difference in half-life. The detn. of I is a simple analysis, requiring only 0.2-0.5 g. samples, can be completed in 1.5-2 hrs., does not require chem. sepn., and a neutron source of lower flux than a reactor can be used for the irradiation. In the tested samples I was detd. in the amt. 10-4 g.
