The association of tris(ethylenediamine)chromium(III) ion with halogen ions

Abstract: By the spectrophotometric method the formation of ion pairs of tris(ethylenediamine)-chromium(III) ion with Cl^-, Br^-, and I^- was studied. From the shifting of max. extinctions of the components, assocn. consts. were calcd. showing a decrease in the order 1.21 for Cl^-, 0.58 for Br^-, and 0.25 for I^-. The results agree with Bjerrum's theory (CA 22, 1263).
