The determination of the active hydrogen in some nitro and nitroso compounds

Abstract: The gas volumetric detn. of active H in some nitro and nitroso compds. with LiAlH₄ in N-ethylmorpholine or Bu₂O was studied. The rate of the reaction of the nitro or nitroso group is slower than the rate of the reaction of the active H, and the amt. of gas corresponding to the active H can be differentiated from the amt. of gas liberated by the nitro or nitroso group and to det. the active H in the presence of nitro or nitroso groups. For the evaluation of the reactions graphically, 3 types of curves, one 2-phase and two 1-phase were shown. The 2-phase and one 1-phase curves were used for the anal. detn.
