Abstract: Oscillographic polarography was used to study the kinetics of oxidn. and redn. reactions. The technique was used to det. the rate const. k of the oxidn. of cyclohexanol (4-15 × 10-3M) with H2O2 (concn. equal to that of cyclohexanol) as 2.6 × 10-3 ± 9% l./mole sec. at 30°. Plot of log k vs. temp. -1 was linear. The activation energy was 8.2 kcal./mole, the activation entropy -42.6 cal./degree-mole. Log k was linear with the square root of the ionic strength of the electrolyte; the slope was 0.4. Oxidn. of cyclohexanone with H2O2 had a rate const. of 5.4 × 10-3l./mole-sec. at 30°, an activation energy of 9.8 kcal./mole, and an activation entropy of -37.8 cal./degree-mole.
