Abstract: A method was described for the preparative chromatographic sepn. of the equil. mixt. of phenylacetylcarbinol and methylbenzoylcarbinol on a column of powd. cellulose using the system CHCl3-H2O, by applying the reversed-phase principle. From the equil. mixt. prepd. by boiling the optically active (-)-phenylacetylcarbinol, d. = 1.115, n = 1.5313, 2 racemic isomers in a pure state were prepd.: phenylacetylcarbinol, d. = 1.115, n = 1.5309, and methylbenzoyl-carbinol, d. = 1.112, n = 1.5424. The spectra show the absorption wavelengths of the group C=O in the areas 1690 and 1720 cm-1
