Abstract: A microanalysis was applied for the measurement of the effect of the Al2O3 concn. on the crit. c.d. (Jcr) in molten Na3AlF6-Al2O3. Comparison of the results with data in literature shows that this method can be applied for rapid orientation measurements. In various phases of the electrolysis the wettability of graphite is strongly increased at cathodic polarization and decreased at anodic polarization. The relation of Jcr to the concn. of Al2O3 is illustrated by a graph. At 6% (by wt.) of Al2O3 Jcr was 6 amp./cm.2 The max. deviation of a measurement was 0.7 amp./cm.2
