Modification of rubber. III. The preparation of modified polymers from plasticized rubber

Abstract: cf. CA 58, 7008d. A method for the prepn. of modified polymers from plasticized rubber and vinyl monomers is described. The hydroperoxides formed during cold (20-5°) plasticizing are decompd. by heat (at 90, 100, and 120°) with formation of macromol. radicals which initiate polymerization of monomers and thus the formation of modified polymers. It was detd. that with increasing time of plasticizing and with increasing temp., the conversion of monomers is increased.
