Abstract: cf. CA 54, 23318a. Detns. of labile bound SO2 are affected by polythionates because after alkali and acid treatment, sulfite and thiosulfate are formed which during the titration take up I. Heated model solns. and spent sulfite liquors were analyzed for the presence of dithionates after the elimination of polythionates and thiosulfates with a freshly pptd. Ag2O. None were found. The detn. of H2SO4, lignosulfonic acids, sulfonated sugars, and thiosulfuric and polythionic acids is described. The soln. is titrated with 0.1N NaOH with a methyl orange indicator and immediately after with 0.1N I. Thiosulfates are detd. with HCHO and sulfates gravimetrically. Polythionates can be detd. with HgCl2.
