Abstract: Comilling of pairs of unextd. rubbers, pale crepe (natural rubber) and Buna S3 (butadiene-styrene), pale crepe and Polysar N301 (butadiene-acrylonitrile), Buna S3 and Polysar N301, on 2 roll mills at 20-5° in air is described. During cold milling the mixt. of rubbers is exposed to an intensive degradation resulting in a considerable deactivation of macroradicals by O and by low-mol.-wt. nonrubber components and in the formation of the modified rubber copolymers. The changes during modification were followed by the plasticity, viscosity, selective pptn. or extn., and swelling. The most intense degradation and the formation of macroradicals occur during the 1st 10 min., leading to high viscosity. At the same time there is an intense degradation of macromols. of modified rubber. Properties of modified rubbers differ considerably in soly. and swelling from the properties of corresponding mech. mixts.
