Abstract: The elaidinization of oleic add and Me linoleate by N oxides, Se, and SO2 at various temps. and various time reaction conditions was described. From the results detd. by infrared spectroscopy in the area 975 cm-1, by sepn. paper chromatography and by chem. and phys. consts., conclusions were made. The effect of N oxides on oleic acid under given temp. and time reaction conditions was such that there was always a change of its area configuration. The change of the configuration of oleic acid by Se as a catalyst did not happen at 30° but did at 230°. The change of Me cis-trans-linoleate into Me trans-trans-linoleate could be accomplished either by applying oxides of N at 30° or by Se at 210°. There was no change in the configuration by the effect of SO2 on the oleic acid under the given reaction conditions. SO2 added to the double bond with the formation of various addn. products.
