Complexometric determination of sulfates

Abstract: For direct detn., 50 ml. of slightly acid soln. contg. 2-20 mg. SO₄^-- is treated with excess Pb(OAc)₂ and 10 ml. MeOH. PbSO₄ is sepd., dissolved in 10 ml. NaOAc, and titrated with 0.02M Complexone III with Xylenol Orange indicator. For indirect detn., a pH 4-5 soln. contg. 4-20 mg. SO₄^-- is treated with 20 ml. 0.02M Pb(OAc)₂ and filtered. Excess Pb in the filtrate is detd. complexometrically with Xylenol Orange indicator in the presence of urotropine. These methods can be used for detn. of SO₄^-- in H₂O.
