Abstract: Chlorination and the insecticidal properties of the satn. V-K chalk produced from beet sugar defecation cake are described. In chlorination of the cake inorg. Cl- and ClO- and chlorinated amino compds. contg. active Cl bound on N are formed. There is a loss of active Cl in the presence of the org. matter and its cleavage products, with a further chlorination until pH is decreased to 9.4 from 10.4, which is a point change at which the cake is completely bleached. Then, to inhibit a further loss of active Cl, the cake is washed out by floating, and pH is decreased to 7.0. The tests on Musca domestica indicate that satn. V-K chalk is very effective as an insecticide.
