Abstract: The elec. properties (loss angle, tan δ, dielec. const., and elec. resistance) of insulating oils were studied by testing chromatographic fractions of lubricating oil-distillates from Czech crude oils. The value of tan δ increases exponentially with the concn. of aromatic C and it is a function of the amt. of conjugated double bonds. The kinetics of the changes of tan δ at higher temp. in a pure paraffinic-naphthenic (I) sample differ basically from the kinetics of these changes in the sample contg. aromatic components (II). I shows an induction period whereas II shows a sudden increase of tan δ immediately at the start of oxidation. The dependence of tan δ on the dielec. const. is exponential in I; there is practically no relation with the dielec. const. in II.
