Solubility of sulfur dioxide in aqueous solutions of sodium hydrogen sulfite

Abstract: Soly. of SO₂ in aq. solns. of NaHSO₃ at 20-90° and the concn. 0.2-2.0N of Na salt were studied. SO₂ soly. is governed by Henry's law. The amt. of free SO₂ in solns. decreases at low temps. with increasing concn. of Na salt. At higher temps. the curve showing soly. of free SO₂ goes through min., and 90° soly. is increased with increasing concn. of Na salt. This anomaly was observed also with NH₄HSO₃ solns. (Domansky and Rendos, C.A. 52, 5937f). For detn. the method of D. and R. was applied.
