Abstract: cf. C.A. 52, 17776d. ZnO has practically no effect on the speed of S binding in Na butadiene rubber (SKB-35) (I) and natural rubber (II) (smoked sheet) in mixts. with diphenylguanidine (III). ZnO has practically no effect on the formation of cross-linking in the vulcanization of the mix of I and II and of the mix of I in the presence of III. There is a greater amt. of cross-linking in mixts. with III alone than in similar mixts. with Captax. ZnO affects the formation of cross-linking in vulcanizates of II mix to a greater extent in the presence of III than in the presence of Captax. ZnS is formed during vulcanization, and the amt. depends on the accelerator and the rubber. Most ZnS is formed in the mixts. of II and III.
