Polymerization of trifluorochloroethylene initiated by γ radiation. II. Effect of pentachloroethane on the speed and the degree of polymerization

Abstract: cf. C.A. 51, 6359i. The speed and the degree of block and soln. polymerization of trifluoroethylene (I) were compared at 23° and 52°. The polymerization of I in pentachloroethane soln. is faster than the block polymerization. The speed is decreased in block polymerization by increasing temp., which can be explained by the deactivated transfer of radical reactivity from polymer radicals to monomer. The increase in temp. at the polymerization in the soln. results in the reasonable increase in speed.
