Abstract: The enzymic decarboxylation of cis-aconitic (I) and citric acids (II) into itaconic acid (III) by manometric method is described. The active enzyme is prepd. from the submerged cultivated mycelium of Aspergillus terreus. The change of I into III occurs much faster than the change of II into III. Under optimum conditions to cis-aconitic decarboxylase, at pH 5.6 to 5.9, the dismutation is almost quant. In fermentation the formation of II is less desirable and the speed can be decreased as much as to one fourth.
