Abstract: In the manuf. of lactic acid, it was found by lab. expts. on a larger scale that sucrose (I) can be extd. as Ca saccharate (II) by lime from beet molasses dild. to 6% I concn. II is decompd. by satn. with CO2 into I and CaCO3 (satn. cake). I soln. is fermented by Lactobacillus delbr.ovrddot.uckii into lactic acid, clarified by lime and Ca lactate is crystd., which can be changed by H2SO4 into lactic acid. This process decreases the manuf. cost by 30%.
