Abstract: A method, based on the ability of urease to decomp. urea into NH3 and (NH4)2CO3, is described. NH3 in the presence of urea is driven out from the NH4 salts by Cd(OH)2 into O.02N H2SO4. Cd(OH)2, in 5% emulsion, drives out NH3 quantitatively and the urea during the distn. of NH3 is not decompd. The decompn. of urea does not occur until 9-min. boiling. Boiling during the distn. of NH3 is quiet with no foaming and the added albumin is immediately pptd. The blank expts. show max. value of 0.35 ml. of 0.02N H2SO4.
