A simple photometer for determination of paper chromatograms in reflected light

Abstract: A simple photometer is described by which it is possible to det. in the amts. 10-100 γ, D-galactose, D-glucose, D-mannose, L-arabinose, D-xylose, and L-rhamnose. A light passing through an opening falls on a moving strip of chromatogram and the intensity of the reflected light is measured by 2 Se photocells. By the registration of the intensity of the reflected light, curves are obtained, on which the heights of max. are dependent on the concn. of matter on the chromatogram. The relation is logarithmic but by the electric change in the instrument linear data can be obtained.
