Abstract: The cause of incrustations (I) is explained. By increasing temp. the soly. of Na2SO4 is decreased because it has a neg. soly. coeff. I are formed by 2Na2SO4.Na2CO3 which deposits at a temp. higher than 35° from a satd. soln. of Na2SO4 and Na2CO3. From the chem. compn. of black liquor showing Na2SO4, Na2CO3, NaOH, Na2S, Na2SO3, and Na2S2O3 the formation of I can be gaged to prevent I, the limit at 100° is 7-8% Na2SO4 based on the dry matter of liquor, but in practice 6% Na2SO4 is recommended as a max. concn.
