The increase of alkaloid content in poppies

J. Tomko and A. Wagenhofer

Abstract: cf. C.A. 45, 7307c. By comparing the 1949 and 1950 crops, the poppies contg. blue seeds were the richest in alkaloids and produced the highest yield per hectare. By crossing 'V´ah' with 'white seed' variety the morphine content was increased to 0.637% and the total alkaloid content to 0.934% from the av. 0.5%. N fertilization and dry climatic conditions favor the increase of alkaloids.
