Utilization of starch-factory effluent

G. Fukas

Abstract: One hundred l. of effluent from a potato-starch factory is heated at 75° for 30 min. and allowed to cool to room temp.; the supernatant liquid is then decanted from the starch-protein coagulate. The latter is mixed with 4300 g. of extd. mash and the mixt. is filtered overnight. The product contains 77.5% of H2O; the dry residue consists of protein 23.45, starch 38.27, and ash 42.88%. It is a valuable fodder, being little inferior to corn, but much cheaper. Further advantages of the process consist in cheaper effluent disposal owing to elimination of foaming and to lower org. content of the effluent.
