The precipitation of the organic matter from the sulfite liquor

Abstract: cf. C.A. 43, 7227d. In the pptn. by pressure, the MeO group splits off from the aromatic ring of the lignin. The free ortho and para positions are activated towards the liberated phenolic group and lignin is suitable for further aldehyde condensation and the formation of a three-dimension macromol. The chem. constitution of lignin is explained as the formation and decompn. of macromols. from phenol-aldehyde condensation products.
