Solvent effects on the kinetics of oxidation of the cysteinato-bis(ethyIenediamine)cobaIt(III) ion by periodate

Abstract: The kinetics of oxidation of the cysteinato-bis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) ion by periodate was investigated as a function of ionic strength, concentration of perchloric acid, and temperature. Furthermore, the effect of the nonaqueous component of solvent on rate constant and activation parameters in the water—acetone and water—tert-butyl alcohol mixtures was estimated. The effect of solvent is discussed from the view-point of the change in solvation of the initial and transition state on going from water to a mixed solvent.
