Abstract:

Siraitia grosvenorii serves as a key raw material in the food sector, and its processing generates substantial biomass residues, whose valorization offers added economic and environmental benefits. In light of this, the present study aims to develop S. grosvenorii pellets from its shells and extracts. This research encompasses the pellets preparation process, their physical characteristics and improvement effects on cigarette smoke as well as their stability. The sugar content in the S. grosvenorii extract was determined as 164.8 mg g−1, and the mogroside V content was 9.16 mg g−1. The micromeritics properties of the S. grosvenorii shell powders were also explored for pellets preparation. As the results, eighteen types of various pellets were prepared under the conditions with three variable factors and their basic properties were investigated as similar products in current reports, including pellet weight, crushing strength, sphericity, glossiness, stickiness, and hardness. The ideal pellets were selected as conditioner for the hazard substances in cigarette smoke adsorption experiments, showing the adsorption rates of 34.50% for nicotine and 38.31% for tar. Experiments confirmed that the pellets were capable of releasing active substances and retaining their physicochemical stability for a minimum of six months.
