Abstract: This study reports a metamorphosis of carbohydrazide (CHZ) that simultaneously acts as both a ligand and a linker in a complexation reaction with the Co(II) and Ni(II) cations in the synthesis of new 3D energetic metal-organic frameworks (EMOFs) containing dinitramide (DNA). The 3D coordination model of CHZ differs from the known ones. Complexes [M(CHZ)2](N(NO2))2 (where M: Co, Ni) demonstrate excellent characteristics, including higher density, improved oxygen balance, and high energy compared to their tris-carbohydrazide analogs [M(CHZ)3](N(NO2))2 (where M: Co, Ni). X-ray diffraction shows a continuous framework formed by CHZ via the µ-N, O, N′ coordination with metal cations (Co, Ni). Graphical abstract
