Phase diagram of the NaF-LiF-AlF₃-Al₂O₃ system. II. The LiF-AlF₃ system

Abstract: A phase diagram of the LiF-AlF3 system was constructed for the concn. range of 0-47.5 mole % AlF₃ by using thermal and x-ray analyses. In the system, congruently melting Li₃AlF₆ with m.p. 782° was detd. Li₃AlF₆ forms simple eutectic systems with LiF and AlF₃ (15.0 mole % AlF3 with m.p. at 711° and 35.0 mole % AlF₃ with m.p. at 708°). The complex Li₅Al₃F₁₄ and LiAlF₄, analogous in their compn. to compds. in the system NaF-AlF₃, were not found, either by thermal or by the x-ray analyses. The activity coeffs. in the melt are given.
