Polynomial approximation of the quantities 〈rⁿ〉

Abstract: The quantities 〈r²〉 and 〈r⁴〉for the elements of the first transition series were calculated. These quantities are important for a quantitative determination of the d—d transitions in coordination compounds. Furthermore, the polynomial approximations of these quantities as functions of the charge on central ion are presented.
