Abstract:   The reaction products of saccharose with the aq. solns. of 2-methylaminoethanol heated in an autoclave at 220° 18 hrs. were described. These products were divided by distn. into 2 fractions: (1) b50-10 30-115°; (2) b10 >115°. These compds. were isolated and identified: 1,4-dimethylpiperazine, b741 129-32°; N-methyldiethanolamine, b8 130-2°; N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N'-trimethylethylenediamine, b8 82-4°, n20D 1.4765 (dipicrate m. 228-9°); N-ethyl-N'-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N'-dimethyl-ethylenediamine, b8 111-13°, n20D 1.4775, (dipicrate m. 266-7°); N-acetyl-N'-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N'-dimethyl-ethylenediamine, b0.01 96-7°, n22.5D 1.4703, (picrate m. 171-2°); N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N'-dimethyl-ethylenediamine, b9 150-3°, n20D 1.4832 (dipicrate m. 225-6; N-methyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)acetamide, b8 105°, n20D 1.4573; N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-methylglycolamide, b0.01 94°, b8 123-5°, n22D 1.4917; N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-methylacrylamide, b10 128-30°, n23D 1.4930; C12H22N2O3, b0.001 117-20°, n19D 1.5015. The hypothesis of the mechanism of the formation of these compds. is given.
