Isothiocyanates. XVI. Preparation of isothiocyanates with labeled 35S

Abstract:  The prepn. of isothiocyanates (I), labeled with ³⁵S on the functional group NCS, was accomplished by applying isotopic exchange between the elementary ³⁵S and I. It was detd. that at 180° the isotopic exchange occurs with a sufficient velocity without the application of a high-boiling solvent with mono- and polynuclear aromatic and alicyclic derivs. of I with a negligible thermal decompn. (below 5.0%). The reaction time is 4 hrs. and ³⁵S is cryst. The general equation is: RNCS + ³⁵S .dblharw. RNC35S + S. For the detns., a radiochromatographic method on thin layer Al₂O₃ was applied. These RNC³⁵S were prepd.: (R and μc/millimole given): Ph,324-bromophenyl, 36; 4-biphenylyl, 50; benzyl, 53; 4-bromobenzyl, 40; 1-naphthyl, 46; 2-naphthyl, 38.
