Effect of sulfate and phosphate on the colorimetric determination of fluoride by methylthymol blue

Abstract: In the indirect colorimetric detn. of F^-, 20-70 γ F^-/100 ml., based on the decolorization of the Th⁴⁺-Methylthymol Blue complex, SO₄^2- ≤1 mg./100 ml. and PO₄^3- ≤0.1 mg./100 ml. do not interfere. A correction of 0.98 γ F^- is necessary for 1 mg. of SO₄^2-. F^- can be isolated by distn. with a suitable modification of the procedure either from a H₂SO₄ or H₃PO₄, medium.
