Determination of sialic acid by paper chromatography

Abstract: For the sepn. and detn. of N-acetyl- and N-glycolylneuraminic acids (sialic acids) a paper chromatographic method was developed. For the chromatogram development BuOH-AcOH-H₂O (4:1:5) was used, with detection by p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and Cl₃CCO₂H. This method was applied in the detn. of derivs. of neuraminic acid in blood serum.
