The reaction of tungstates with some organic hydroxy compounds (sugars)

Abstract: Upon addn. of solns. of Na₂WO₄ or Na₂MoO₄ to some α-dihydroxy compds. the pH is increased with the formation of complex compds. which can be detd. with a phenolphthalein color change. The sensitivity of Na₂WO₄ reaction on ethylene glycol, sucrose, maltose, lactose, glucose, glycerol, Na tartrate, fructose, sorbitol, and dulcitol is described.
