Abstract: Sustainable materials are essential for the continuous uplift of socioeconomic life and reduction in environmental impacts. The current study focused on the urgent need for exploration of nanocellulose with numerous benefits of high strength, renewable, cost-effective, and green material. The deep eutectic solvent (DES) has attracted the attention of many researchers as a green and economical solvent for the synthesis of nanocellulose in recent years due to its intrinsic properties of facile synthesis, biodegradability, and non-toxicity. Acid-based deep eutectic solvents (ADES) comprising choline chloride (ChCl) (hydrogen bond acceptor-HBA) and carboxylic acids (hydrogen bond donor-HBD) have been employed for the effective preparation of nanocellulose. The recent progress in implementing ADES in lignin cellulose pretreatment processes has been investigated. This study highlights the industrialization of nanocellulose from lignin cellulose by promoting green technology using ADES. This study could open new pathways for the commercial production of various nanomaterials in a wide range of medical applications.
