Abstract: A series of six amino acid cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol matrix-supported silver composites were synthesized using in situ method. Valine, cystine, l-lysine, l-alanine, l-tyrosine and l-histidine were used as cross-linkers (10% loading). Polymer matrix acted as both capping and reducing agent to obtain stable silver particles embedded in the matrix. The composites were fully characterized by IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, TG analysis, swelling studies, tensile strength measurements and FE-SEM analysis. The dielectric and conductivity properties were analysed at different temperatures and frequency ranges. Further the catalytic ability of the silver composites in the degradation of indigo carmine dye and reduction of 2-nitrophenol was investigated. Graphical Abstract
