Study of the system V205—Na20. I. Phase diagram of the system V205-NaV03

Abstract: The phase diagram of the V205-NaV0 system was re-examd. by thermal and x-ray analyses. The congruently melting compd. 2Na2O.17V2O5 and the incongruently melting compd. 2Na2O.5V2O5 are formed. The former compd. is a V bronze and releases O on solidification. In the partial system V2O5-2Na2O.17V2O5, a eutectic exists at 653° and compn. NaVO3 3 and V2O6 97%. In the partial system 2Na2O.17V2O5-NaVO3, a peritectic exists at 581° with compn. V2O5 39 and NaVO3 61% and a eutectic point exists at 541° with compn. NaVO3 71 and V2O5 29%.
