Interferometric determination of the dependence of the refractive index of alkali chloride solutions on temperature

Abstract: An interferometric detn. of the dependence of n of 0.1M solns. of LiCl, NaCl, KCl, RbCl, CsCl, and NH₄Cl on temp. in the range 20 to 30° is described. This dependence is smaller for LiCl, the same for NH₄Cl, and greater for the others than for H2O. The results are related to the hydration of ions and to the ability of NH₄⁺ ion to form H bridges.
