Abstract: cf. C.A. 53, 10100d. The occurrence of racemization of optically active l-PhCH(OH)Ac, m. 123-4°, [α]22D -311.08°, and l-1-phenyl-1-methoxy-2-propanone (I), m. 107-9°, [α]22D -150.69°, in KOH-MeOH, measured by rotary polarimeter, indicates that no enol compd. is formed, and that I does not undergo racemization since even after a long time it does not lose its optical activity.
