Determination of santonin in Artemisia maritima, from Slovakia

Abstract: A combined method of extn. with C₆H₆ and paper chromatography with polarographic evaluation for the detn. of santonin (I) in A. maritima is described. Glacial AcOH was applied for extn. from chromatograms, and, after diln. with H₂O, was applied as electrolyte in polarography. The amts. of I detd. were 50-300 γ. Max. content of I (0.75%) was detd. in blossoms collected in early August before opening of blossoms.
